"I only eat 1500 calories a day but I don't lose any weight, what am I doing wrong?"

Well the first question is; should you be losing any weight?  Check online what your ideal range should be for your height, body frame and gender:

Also, as a dietitian it does make me wary when a client is able to tell me exactly the calories they are eating per day.  Sure, it’s good to be aware of what you are taking in, but counting calories has never been my thing.

Let’s keep it balanced- you won’t be able to go the rest of you life eating less calories than you need, so try a way of eating you can do for the long run.

Here are a few tips for adjusting your diet without the constant counting of calories.

  • Get at least 5 fruits and veggies in EVERY day (serving of cooked veggies= ½ cup, serving of raw veggies= 1 cup, serving of fruit= one small piece)
  • Hydrate, hydrate and hydrate; make it a habit to drink about 8 ounces of good old H2O 6-8 times per day
  • Try about 4 ounces of lean protein with lunch and dinner such as grilled chicken, turkey, lean hamburger, baked salmon etc
  • Remember milk- try skim milk with your meals; some studies have shown correlation with low fat dairy products and weight loss
  • 3 meals per day plus snacks; No skipping meals! And plan for snacks between your meals that provide ~200 calories or less (a perfect chance to get your fruit and veggies in)
  • Don’t drink your calories- ditch the soda, juice etc. And if you drink alcohol be aware of the calories they pack into those delicious margaritas and other favorite cocktails.

Beyond that- make an effort to be active for ~ 1 hour every day, if that means going for a walk, to the gym or perhaps some very intense clothes shopping.

Best of luck!

Ashley
